There are several possible entry points to the practice of Zen. Four of the more common include zazen, study with a teacher, academic study, and practice with a group. This Resource Page is designed as an attempt to provide information that can be helpful to anyone wishing to deepen their practice through a broader exposure to these entry points.

As such, the Buffalo Zen Dharma Community has provided a list of recommended readings for those interested in learning more about the practice of Zen Buddhism. An exhaustive list of reference material being impossible, these works were selected with the beginner in mind. The list contains a few “classic” texts, with a leaning toward the works of John Daido Loori, Roshi, the Abbot of Zen Mountain Monastery and founder of the Mountains and Rivers Order (MRO).

Next, we have included a brief list of web-links pertaining to Zen Buddhism. Again, these links largely pertain to Zen Mountain Monastery and the MRO, and are by no means meant to be an exhaustive listing of the many websites devoted to Zen.

The reader may also be interested in visiting (online) a few items of local interest pertaining to the recent Buffalo visit of Tensin Gyatso, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet.

Finally, we list several local sitting groups, other than our own, that the interested practitioner may wish to investigate.

Once again, we hope this short listing of various resources will be helpful – either in terms of finding a group with which to share your interest(s), providing reading material for information and further study, or through exposure to several different types of Buddhist practice.
